Braves' Marcell Ozuna reportedly has administrative leave extended through Friday
Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna had his Major League Baseball administrative leave extended through Friday, according to ESPN's Bradford Doolittle.
Ozuna is currently participating in a diversion program as part of a pretrial resolution more than three months after being arrested on assault charges after allegedly assaulting his wife.
The 30-year-old faces misdemeanor charges of family violence battery and simple assault. The charges could be dropped if Ozuna meets the diversion program's conditions within six months.
Ozuna could still face a suspension from Major League Baseball even if he completes the diversion program. The league is reviewing his case under the domestic violence policy between the MLB and MLB Players Association.
Ozuna signed a four-year, $65 million deal with the Braves after a solid first season with the franchise in 2020. In 48 games this season, he's hitting .213/.288/.356 with seven home runs and 26 RBI.
Despite the absence of Ozuna and Ronald Acuna Jr., who tore his ACL, the Braves are first in the National League East with a 76-69 record, two games ahead of the second-place Philadelphia Phillies.
