Introducing the LA Clippers, the fashion squad

The on-court Clippers are known to put on show after show, whether it’s in the form of miraculous comebacks or game-winning defensive stops. Off the court, this team continues to turn heads with its players’ unique personalities and fashion sense.

In a grueling 82-game season, one way the players get to have fun and be themselves is in the tunnel. Previously led by fashion superstars Chris Paul (multiple NBA All-drip First Team selections by LeagueFits) and then Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (named “2019 Drip ROTY” by LeagueFits), the current Clipper team still remains a contender for the best-dressed team title. Without further ado, I present to you the best fashion from the LA Clippers.

The Benchwarmers

Reggie Jackson and Marcus Morris Sr. have had their fair share of big moments on the court. Earning himself a new nickname as “Mr. June”, Jackson was one of the most prominent forces behind the magical playoff run without Kawhi Leonard. Morris also did his part in keeping the Clippers alive with his mid-range jumpers and pull-up 3-pointers — namely, he dropped 23 big points in a win-or-go-home Game 7 against the Dallas Mavericks. Their fashion taste is not as impressive or electrifying as their on-court performance, however.

Jackson may want to keep his on-court goggles on the next time he goes shopping. Although his attempt at color blocking deserves a few claps, his colorful short-sleeve button-up needs to find its way back to the closet — perhaps with his short purple shorts.

Now, Morris’ outfit isn’t as bad as Jackson’s. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t even say it’s bad. I am not the biggest fan of the big print on his shorts nor the pattern on his shorts, but it is his vibe and he pulls it off pretty well. Let’s just say his role on this fashion squad is equivalent to that of the underrated benchwarmer who will still give you buckets when necessary, just not consistent enough to be a part of the rotation.

The Role Players

Role players don’t need to drop 30 points a night or hit big-time shots; they just need to be consistent and reliable. And this is exactly what the four “role players” on the Clippers fashion team do, night in and night out: they consistently dress chic and classy in the tunnel.

Kawhi Leonard is the last man who barely made it in the rotation. I can see why many people would argue that Morris dresses better than the superstar. But, Leonard makes it into the list of role players because he is more consistent: while Morris may have more good fits, Kawhi has fewer bad fits. Take, for example, his plaid pants complemented by his black sweater. Yes, it’s simple, but it’s also chic.

All odds are against Ivica Zubac: it must be hard to find clothes that fit you when you’re seven feet tall. Still, Zubac dresses in style effortlessly. In this outfit, his black Louis Vuitton duffel bag and olive cargo pants are fun touches that add a layer of personality and style to his simple outfit.

Nice white shoes, well-fitting black pants, a clean white shirt, a simple chain, a cute flannel, and a black duffel. That’s all there is to Luke Kennard’s outfit, but it just works. It’s not great, but it’s not too bad either.

The same goes for the Frenchman as well — maybe a little more flavor than his fellow soon-to-be second-year Clipper, though. The white half-placket T-shirt works in harmony with the dark blue denim and white Nike Blazer Lows. His bracelets, watch, and bag complete Nicolas Batum’s Défilé de mode.

The Superstars

Now introducing Hollywood’s very best, the Clippers’ fashion big three: Serge Ibaka, Paul George, and Terance Mann. Revered by fashion aficionados alike, the superstars haven’t been left out of LeagueFits honors. Ibaka made two consecutive appearances on the NBA All-Drip Second Team, George was a part of the 2019 NBA All-Drip Cozy Team, and Mann was given 2019-20 All-Drip Rookie Team honors. In other words, these players know how to put on a show everywhere in the arena.

The Congolese center wasn’t wrong when he said “I don’t do drip or fashion, I do art.”

Whether it’s because of his gigantic scarf or his collection he launched in collaboration with Nobis, a Canadian luxury outerwear brand, Ibaka is very fashion-forward. As his taste in “art”, is one of a kind, I will stop myself from attempting to put his artistry into words. Below are some of his most iconic and cleanest outfits.

Paul George knows that staying cozy and being stylish aren’t mutually exclusive. He gets the best of both worlds in his ESSENTIALS hoodie and sweatpants. He can dress up and look sharp without much effort, too; in the second outfit, his mix of formal (his blue knit sweater) and casual Jordan 3 True Blue’s works together for a good outfit. His gold ‘PG’ chain works perfectly as the cherry on top. Don’t even get me started on how sleek he looked in his Christmas Day tuxedo.

I saved my personal favorite for last. Terance Mann can pull off all looks — cozy, casual, and athleisure, to name a few. He knows how to accessorize, puts on the right pair of sneakers, and doesn't stop pushing his boundaries. His shorts from the last outfit picture is one of a kind, literally: a Mary Francis (his stylist) invention, the basketball shorts are custom made from five of his game-worn Florida State jerseys. It’s this creativity and the sentimental meaning behind some of his outfits that make his tunnel looks even better.
