Bristol inspection issues for the NASCAR Cup Series
Tonight, Bristol Motor Speedway hosts the NASCAR Cup Series. The NASCAR Playoff race is an elimination event, trimming the playoff contenders from 16 to just 12.

There’s no practice or qualifying session this weekend. Cars will touch the track for the first time on lap 1 of tonight’s race. That can sometimes cause issues regarding inspection.
Eight cars failed the inspection line on the first pass: Martin Truex Jr, Alex Bowman, Aric Almirola, Tyler Reddick, Austin Dillon, Matt DiBenedetto, Chase Briscoe, Cole Custer.
Martin Truex Jr was able to pass the inspection line on his second pass. Per the rules, he’s allowed to keep his starting position on the pole.
Inspection is ongoing. This post will be updated in the case of additional failures.
Update: All eight cars were able to pass inspection on their second attempt. No penalties will be issued.

NASCAR Inspection Rules
1 Inspection failure: No penalty, the team gets to go to the back of the inspection line and try again.
2 inspection failure: If a team fails twice, NASCAR will send that car to the rear of the field.
3 inspection failures: They have to start at the rear. In addition, the car has to serve a pass through penalty on pit lane at the start of the race.
Typically, NASCAR crew members are ejected on a second failure. However, due to a lack of practice and/or qualifying in recent events, series officials have given less-strict ejections for failed pre-race inspections.
