Saturday’s wet weather conditions are bringing a bit of relief to the firefighters working on the Bull Complex burning in the Mt. Hood National Forest. The wildfire now covers 22,432 acres and is 15% contained.
Crews worked to apply retardant and water around the Gold Butte Lookout Friday. They cleared vegetation near the historic lookout and will continue to safely monitor the area for hotspots over the next few days.
“We continue to evaluate the values at risk based on established management action points and respond with the appropriate action for the situation,” said Incident Commander Trainee Eric Riener. “We act decisively within a clear decision framework to ensure firefighter and public safety while protecting important historical structures and natural resources.”
Incident management on the Bull Complex predicts that the overall spread of the fire will be minimal Saturday and Sunday. The rain and cooler weather will allow the firefighters to add to the containment lines.
They are predicting a gradual increase in fire behavior after this weekend’s rain.
