The Oregon State Beavers have balanced traditional recruiting and NCAA transfer portal additions under the Jonathan Smith tenure, and it appears that will once again be the recipe in the 2022 recruiting cycle.
Roughly 30 minutes before kickoff, Florida Gators redshirt junior edge-rusher Andrew Chatfield was spotted on the Oregon State sideline taking part in a visit to campus.
The 6-foot-2, 260-pound defensive lineman/outside linebacker, originally out of American Heritage High School (Fort Lauderdale, Florida), entered the transfer portal in late August, but largely remained with the team until recently.
Last season, Chatfield played in all 12 games for Florida, registering 13 tackles, four tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks.
As part of the 2018 recruiting class, Chatfield was a 247Sports four-star prospect, rated the nation’s No. 213 overall recruit and the No. 13 defensive end.
At the time of his commitment to Florida, he held offers from more than 30 programs, highlighted by Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Wisconsin and others.
Oregon State has added multiple prospects via the transfer portal in recent years, highlighted by quarterback Tristan Gebbia, wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey and linebacker Avery Roberts (Nebraska), defensive end Addison Gumbs (Oklahoma), quarterback Sam Noyer (Colorado), running back Deshaun Fenwick (South Carolina), wide receiver Makiya Tongue (Georgia) and defensive tackle Keonte Schad (Minnesota).
