Inter 6-1 Bologna: Player ratings as devastating Nerazzurri hit six

Inter returned to winning ways in emphatic style on Saturday evening, treating San Siro to a lesson in the art of clinical finishing with a 6-1 victory over Bologna.

A reaction was needed following the draw with Sampdoria and loss to Real Madrid, but Lautaro Martinez put the audience's nerves at ease by slotting away Denzel Dumfries' superb cross to open the scoring.

Bologna spurned a decent chance to pull level midway through the first half, and they were punished for their wastefulness on the half-hour mark, when Milan Skriniar powered home a thumping header from Federico Dimarco's corner.

Four minutes later, it was 3-0 to Inter. Chaos ensued in the Bologna penalty area, and after the ball ricocheted back into the six-yard box, Nicolo Barella was on hand to clip a shot into an unguarded net and kill off any Bologna hopes of a fightback.

The scoring continued in the second half as Matias Vecino got in on the act, rolling home at the far post after a string of Inter players failed to make any connection with Dimarco's cross. Dimarco completed his hat-trick of assists on 63 minutes, sliding the ball into Edin Dzeko, who poked a shot into the far corner of the Bologna net.

The Bosnian then doubled his tally five minutes later, lashing the ball beyond Lukasz Skorupski from an incredibly acute angle. Bologna did pull a goal back late on through an Arthur Theate header, but Inter ran out 6-1 winners, putting on a show for a delighted San Siro crowd.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Samir Handanovic (GK) - 6/10 - Little to do over the 90 minutes, as the rest of his teammates put in the hard yards ahead of him. Will be annoyed to have lost his clean sheet at the end.

Milan Skriniar (CB) - 8/10 - Showed his attacking threat by powering a superb header into the net to double the score, just when Bologna were beginning to gain some belief.

Stefan de Vrij (CB) - 7/10 - Endured a couple of shaky moments when the score was 1-0, but once Inter took full control, there was little to do in terms of backs to the wall defending.

Alessandro Bastoni (CB) - 7/10 - Back in the team, and a nice straight forward one to ease himself back from injury. Forced into the odd battle with the canny Marko Arnautovic, but held his own against the Austrian.

2. WIng-Backs & Midfielders

Denzel Dumfries (RWB) - 8/10 - Had A LOT of fun on that right side. Bombed on, overlapped, cut inside or simply blitzed beyond his marker time and time again. Got the assist for Martinez's opener with a stunning cross.

Nicolo Barella (CM) - 8/10 - Alive to the loose ball in the box to slot home and add a third for his team. Always looked to drive through tackles and berated the referee when things didn't go his way.

Marcelo Brozovic (CM) - 8/10 - So elegant and graceful on the ball, dropping the shoulder and turning away from trouble with effortless ease.

Matias Vecino (CM) - 7/10 - A rare outing for the midfielder, but he enjoyed the freedom of San Siro against Bologna. Hardly forced into putting a foot wrong by their poor opposition. Tucked away his goal with a cheeky grin.

Federico Dimarco (LW) - 9/10 - Got his first assist with a pinpoint corner onto Skriniar's head. Notched his second assist with a teasing ball across the backline, and a third with an intelligent pass into Dzkeo. What a machine!

3. Forwards

Joaquin Correa (ST) - 6/10 - Started brightly but suffered an injury which forced him off the field of play after only half an hour. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious.

Lautaro Martinez (ST) - 8/10 - On hand to capitalise on Dumfries' delicious delivery. He is going to feast with service like that this season. Crashed a shot against the crossbar early in the second half.

4. Substitutes

Edin Dzeko (ST) - 8/10 - Came on after half an hour. Got his first goal with an instinctive finish under pressure in the box. Blasted his second from a ridiculous angle. Evergreen.
