PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Oregon Ducks easily dispatched the Stony Brook Seawolves in a game delayed at the start by lightning. But the victory may be costly as Ducks starting quarterback Anthony Brown was injured and didn’t play in the second half.
The Ducks wasted little time scoring. They took a 3-0 lead with their first drive, capped with a 40-yard field goal from Camden Lewis just 2:37 into the game. Then CJ Verdell scored on a 9-yard touchdown pass that opened it up to 10-0 midway through the 1st quarter.
Stony Brook marched 75 yards on 11 plays as time expired in the 1st quarter to cut the deficit to 3 points. That was the high point for the Seawolves, as the Ducks stepped on the gas and pulled away.
Early in the 2nd quarter, the Ducks added a touchdown on a 7-yard run from quarterback Anthony Brown to open a 17-7 lead. It stayed that way, and the Ducks led by 10 at the half.
Ty Thompson tossed a 1-yard pass to tight end Terrance Ferguson at the 7:45 mark of the third quarter to give the Ducks a 24-7 lead. With 1:38 left in the 3rd, Travis Dye rumbled in from the 3 to boost the Oregon lead to 31-7.
Lewis added his second field goal of the game less than 2 minutes into the 4th as the Ducks lead ballooned to 27 points.
Thompson and Dont’e Thornton connected on a 54-yard strike midway through the 4th as Oregon stretched their lead to 41-7.
Trey Benson added a late 3-yard touchdown run to put the capper on a 48-7 victory.
This is the first time these teams have played each other. The Ducks are now 3-0, while Stony Brook falls to 1-2.
