Last Sunday’s loss against the Texans has Jacksonville Jaguars fans already looking forward to the draft, so here’s a seven-round mock draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had the worst record in the NFL last season at 1-15 and after losing to a team many predicted to be the NFL’s worst this year, it’s very likely that they will have a very high draft pick come April yet again.

Trevor Lawrence was pretty underwhelming in his debut as he threw three interceptions, however, he also made some throws that showed why he was the number one pick, so one bad game really shouldn’t be very concerning for Jaguars fans.

The biggest issue is that the team around him didn’t do him many favors and they did not put him in a position to succeed.  Moving forward it is essential that the Jacksonville Jaguars spend their draft picks wisely to build a roster around their young quarterback.

After some trades, the Jaguars have four additional draft picks, one in the fifth round, two in the sixth round, and one in the seventh round, and all of these are in addition to their own selections, so that brings their total draft picks number to 11.

So, using PFN’s NFL Mock Draft Simulator I’ve put together an early prediction for what their draft picks could look like.

CB. LSU. 1. 52. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Derek Stingley Jr.. player

The goal for the Jacksonville Jaguars is to get as much talent on the roster as possible, particularly at premium positions.  So, with that being said the strategy becomes to select the best player available, and in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft scenario that is Derek Stingley Jr.

Stingley Jr. is easily one the best players in the draft, arguably the very best, and on top of that he plays corner, which is a position that is very valuable in today’s NFL.

He possesses all the physical tools you could possibly want in a corner as he’s got great size (6-foot-2), he’s very athletic, and he moves quite fluidly.  What makes him truly special as a corner however are his rare ball skills, as a freshman at LSU he picked off six passes and broke up a total of 15, which are numbers you almost never see, especially from a freshman playing in the SEC.

Stingley Jr. did have a bit of a down year by his standards last year, however, I don’t think it really affects his draft stock as it was a weird year with covid and he dealt with injuries throughout the season.  If he can return to his freshman year self or a close version to that he’s absolutely a lock to go top-five and could even have a case to be the first overall pick.
