A man was taken to the hospital after he was rescued from Narragansett waters Saturday morning.
Narragansett police said a man and his friend were fishing off Hazard Avenue when a wave came up and hit them.
Both men were swept into the water, police said.
One man was able to hang onto a chain across the rocks, officers said, but the other man was deep into the water.
Authorities said they responded to the scene just before 10 a.m. and the fire department was able to retrieve the swimmer.
He was taken to Monahan's Dock and then transported to South County Hospital.
There has been no word on his condition at this time.
The town council will finalize on Monday the purchase of life safety cabinets that will be installed there.
In the last six years, at least four people have died there.
A 61-year-old man also died while swimming in the waters off the Cliff Walk, near Rough Point in Newport.
