Man City identified Tottenham hitman Harry Kane as their top target this past summer after securing the signing of Jack Grealish. Unfortunately, the reigning Premier League champions failed to bring Kane to the Etihad. Per ESPN, it's now been revealed why exactly the deal fell through. City frankly wasn't willing to put enough money on the table:
Sources have told ESPN that the key factor in Kane's failure to move was simply that Man City never showed any serious intention of an offer close to the £150 million transfer fee that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wanted. Spurs refused to countenance transferring Kane — despite the player's belief he had a gentleman's agreement — and so from Levy's point of view, with both his valuation and reluctance effectively out in the open, the onus was on City to make a huge bid.
Man City even offered players in return in order to bring down the fee for Kane, but Spurs didn't budge. However, ESPN also said that Pep Guardiola's side plans to make a run at the England international in the January transfer window as well and next summer, if need be.
Kane has struggled to find his form in North London following the summer saga, failing to score through three PL matches thus far. We're all aware of what he's capable of in the final third after winning the Golden Boot and the assist title last season, but he's yet to really settle in this term.
