EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. (WLAX) — Members of the Eau Claire Police Department on Friday reunited with the toddler whose life they recently saved.
Two-year-old Elijah was on a walk with his family when he ran off and had to be rescued from the Chippewa River. Officers responded, giving him CPR.
After spending days in the hospital in a medically induced coma, Elijah is now recovering.
“It’s a miracle,” his mother, Jamie, said. “Every day, he is getting better and stronger and back into a mission man. He has got fire in him. He’s a fighter.”
Elijah spent Friday eating ice cream with his rescuers from the police department. He even got a special visit from the fire department.
“It’s wonderful to see him today up and running around, and we are so thankful for a positive outcome,” Sgt. Mike Major said.
Jamie said her family is now investing in helping other families learn from their story to take water safety seriously.
