Legacies spoilers follow.
Legacies, a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, will be returning for season four soon and a new teaser trailer for the series has suggested one of the show's main characters could be leaving – for good.
The trailer shows the students at Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted continue to try to defeat villain Malivore, with many lives at stake.
Main character Hope Mikkaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), descended from powerful vampire, witch, and werewolf bloodlines but is not a vampire herself, may have to die to protect her friends and family.
The voiceover in the trailer says: "This is a warning for what this fight is going to cost you. They're gonna keep coming and keep coming until all your friends are dead."

Hope's friends warn her that she should have left when she had the chance, laying the foundation for the ultimate sacrifice in the new series.
However, this is the Vampire Diaries universe where characters rarely die for good. As we know, a number of them in both The Originals and The Vampire Diaries came back to life or were 'turned' so they could live on.
Though the teaser trailer does point to a worrying outcome for Hope, there is the very distinct possibility that she could come up with a last-minute save that will defeat the threat of Malivore, or maybe she will 'turn' into a vampire and live our her immortal days.

Over the last few seasons, fans have been patiently waiting for Hope to embrace her true form, with the idea being that when she dies, the vampire part of her will emerge and she will change into a different person.
Legacies airs on The CW in the US. Season 4 will premiere October 14.
