Hospitalizations in West Virginia due to the coronavirus on Saturday rose to another pandemic record.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources' website listed hospitalizations on Saturday at 955 – an increase of 33 patients from the previous record on Friday.
Meanwhile, the number of patients in intensive care is approaching 300 with 292 reported on Saturday – 15 over the total reported on Friday.
The number of patients on ventilators was at 170, one more than the previous total reported on Friday.
DHHR officials updated the hospitalization figures later Saturday morning after the agency had updated other coronavirus totals.

Saturday’s report on coronavirus in West Virginia showed more than 2,000 new virus cases, but there were no new deaths and there was a large drop in current active cases.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources’ website listed 2,074 new cases since the last update. West Virginia’s death total that has been climbing remained the same as Friday – 3,370.
Meanwhile, the record pandemic total of active cases at the end of the week at 29,744 dropped to 27,525 on Saturday – a decline of more than 2,200 active cases.
As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, hospitalizations had not been updated and the total remained at the record reported Friday - 922, with 277 in intensive care and 169 on a ventilator. Recoveries are at 190,618.
The state’s cumulative positive test rate percentage continues to creep up and was at 5.65%, a slight increase from 5.63% in the previous report. West Virginia’s daily positive percentage test rate declined from 11.43% to 9.75%.
On the county alert map, 45 of the state’s 55 counties, including Kanawha, Putnam and Cabell remained in red. Eight counties were in orange, one was in gold and one was in yellow. No counties were in green. The map was based on Friday’s data.
Updated data shows that 1.00% of fully vaccinated residents have tested positive for COVID-19, while 0.012% of those vaccinated residents have died.
