Birmingham woman killed in pedestrian crash failed to obey traffic signal, police say

24-year-old driver and Bloomfield Hills resident responsible for crash stopped at scene, police say

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – A 39-year-old Birmingham woman was killed Friday at around 9:15 p.m. in a pedestrian crash that happened on Woodward Avenue, according to police.

The crash is not a hit-and-run and the 24-year-old driver and Bloomfield Hills resident responsible did immediately stop afterward. She has fully cooperated with the police investigation.

Police say the woman was crossing Woodward Avenue when a vehicle hit her.

“A pedestrian was crossing southbound Woodward at Brown Street in the crosswalk. Unfortunately, the pedestrian was crossing against the traffic signal. A vehicle traveling southbound on Woodward under the green traffic signal struck the pedestrian in the far left lane closest to the median,” read information released by the Birmingham Police Department on the crash.

The victim died at the scene of the crash.

Local 4 News was told that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash although a test will be conducted as part of the investigation.
