VFL Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix has heaped praise on Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, calling him ‘the future’.

The name Maxence Lacroix is one Borussia Dortmund and Bundesliga fans have gotten to know quite well up to this point. For many months, the French born defender was linked with a move to the Westfalenstadion before the summer transfer window opened, but alas, a move never materialized.

Lacroix is in his second season with Wolfsburg, the first of which was certainly a breakout one for the Frenchman. Alongside John Brooks he formed one of the Bundesliga’s strongest defensive partnerships, and looks to continue his good work this season with his side sitting top of the table on 12 points after 4 games.

Lacroix recently did an interview for the Bundesliga’s official website, where he talked about a variety of topics which included a conversation related to who he believes to be the Bundesliga’s best striker:

[Erling] Haaland is very good. I also have huge respect for [Robert] Lewandowski. When I played against him, he was very, very good. But I think Haaland is the future. I don’t know whether he will stay in the Bundesliga or go elsewhere but he is very good.” – Maxence Lacroix

When asked about which of the two world class strikers he would rather face, Lacroix’s definitive answer was Lewandowski due to Haaland’s sheer physical nature:

I think I would prefer to play against Lewandowski because Haaland is just so powerful. You have to be fully concentrated when you play against him. They’re different kinds of players, but both extremely good.

Lacroix was also asked about which players he thinks are the Bundesliga’s best centre-backs currently, and another member of the Die Schwarzgelben contingent made his list, Manuel Akanji. The Frenchman was humble in his choices, naming Akanji and Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano as the two players that came to mind, despite some perhaps thinking that his name could feature in that conversation as well.
