Owensboro’s offense was clicking on all cylinders in its road matchup with Breckinridge County, dominating drive after drive en route to a 56-6 score.

The Red Devils took no time to get on the board, scoring on their first drive of the game after forcing a three-and-out.

It was junior quarterback Kasey Boone finding junior Jeremiah Goodwin for a 17-yard touchdown to make it a 7-0 game with 8:10 to go in the quarter.

A big third down sack by sophomore Courtland Howard set Owensboro up to expand its lead on its next drive, which they did as senior Tramel Barksdale broke several tackles for a 35-yard touchdown to take a 14-0 lead with 5:23 left in the first quarter.

After another defensive stop, senior Maurice Moorman took a punt 75 yards to the house to take a 21-0 lead into the second quarter.

The Red Devils didn’t stop there, as Boone found junior Ethan Pendleton a minute into the second quarter for a 31-yard touchdown pass to take a 28-0 lead.

Breckinridge County finally got on the board minutes later thanks to a 38-yard touchdown pass with 8:41 left in the second quarter, but Owensboro quickly responded after Breckinridge County missed the extra point.

On the ensuing drive Boone needed just one play to find Pendleton downfield for a 51-yard touchdown. This gave the Red Devils a 35-6 lead with 8:29 left in the first half.

Boone threw an interception on Owensboro’s next drive, but the Fighting Tigers weren’t able to turn it into offense.

The Red Devils took that opportunity to expand its lead even more, as Barksdale took one nine yards for a touchdown to take a 42-6 lead and start the running clock.

With minutes away from halftime it seemed like Owensboro was done, but after recovering a fumble Boone found Goodwin for the second time on the night.

He connected with Goodwin for a 24-yard touchdown with 1:15 left in the first half, taking a 49-6 lead.

The Red Devils didn’t take their foot off the gas coming out of the locker room, as freshman Deion Winstead got in on the action with a 33-yard touchdown to make it 56-6 minutes into the third quarter.

Neither team found the endzone again as the game went to a stalemate, but Owensboro’s offensive prowess helped them come away with a big 56-6 victory on the road.

Barksdale (60 yards, six carries, two touchdowns) and Winstead (43 yards, three carries, one touchdown) supplied three touchdowns and a combined 103 yards on the night, but it was Boone who shined in his second varsity start.

Boone finished the evening with 227 yards on 10-13 passing, to go along with four touchdowns and a single interception that Head Coach Jay Fallin said very easily could’ve been a fifth touchdown.

Pendleton (96 yards on three receptions) and Goodwin (89 yards on four receptions) were his primary targets on the night finishing with two touchdowns each.

“He didn’t [have many incompletions],” Fallin said. “On the interception he got hit as he was thrown and Khalil was open… He stepped into the throw and I think if he doesn’t get hit, he probably hits Khalil for the touchdown.”

Defensively the Red Devils were locked in virtually all night allowing the one Breckinridge County touchdown and holding them to 1-8 on third down conversions.

“I thought defensively we grew up a lot again tonight,” Fallin said. “We gave up one score in a situation where we put the defense on the 50-yard line with a bad kickoff coverage and a penalty… But other than that defensively we were very efficient.”

The road victory makes it a four-game winning streak for Owensboro, as they will hit the road again next week when they take on Ohio County at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24.
