One killed, two injured in I-84 crash

UMATILLA COUNTY – Two participants at the Pendleton Round-Up were seriously injured and one lost his life in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 193 Thursday night at approximately 8:15 p.m.

Oregon State Police reports a Volkswagen Jetta being driven by Jate Frost, 20, of Randlett, Utah, was traveling eastbound when it rear-ended a commercial motor vehicle hauling potatoes operated by Ediberto Ramirez Carillo, 31, of Hermiston.

Frost sustained serious injuries and was flown via Life Flight to Kadlec Regional medical Center in Richland, Washington. The rear passenger in the Jetta, Jesse Hopper, 21, of Magnum, Oklahoma was also seriously injured and was transported to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. The right front passenger in the Jetta was pronounced deceased at the scene. He is identified as Richard Schleicher, 24, of Stockton, Oklahoma. Ramirez Carrillo was not injured.

OSP was assisted by the Echo Fire Department, Umatilla County Fire District No. 1, the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, the Stanfield Police Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
