WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - "It worried me a lot because it was in like, the guy who did it was from my dorm,” said Alex Hoffman, a freshman at Wichita State University.

Hoffman weighing in on a reported sexual assault on campus.

She said what happened is awful, but she thinks it's good that more attention is being brought to incidents like this on campus and that others are stepping up to help.

"Yesterday, people got together to make posters and stuff in support of the victim. And she's making her voice known. And I think that's really good,” said Hoffman.

Junior, Daniel Parham said, "It's a terrible thing. I'm hoping whoever the victim was that she gets clarity and some closure through that."

Parham says what happened is tragic, but he and Hoffman say they think the school does a good job at making students feel safe on campus.

The university recently passed a sexual assault prevention training program to teach students about sexual violence, bystander intervention, and how to talk to a survivor.

"Stick with a crowd of people kind of be able to recognize the signs of sexual assault or or just things that are happening that could lead to sexual assault. And the big thing is, is just being aware,” said Parham.

The university has social workers and licensed counselors to help students with any kind of crisis.

Vice president of student affairs, Dr. Teresa Hall says safety is one of the main priorities on campus.

"Any crime on campus is too much, you know. We, we are very proud that we're a safe campus. But we want our students to thrive and to be successful,” said Dr. Hall.

We also asked Dr. Hall how she and other campus leaders feel about Friday's march for justice.

"I think it's, it's a good thing when students are voicing their opinions and that are offering support to other students on campus,” said Dr. Hall.

Dr. Hall also said, staff and campus police were present at Friday’s march not to stop it or get anyone in trouble, but they want to be supportive of all of their students and make sure things go as planned.
