JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A nursing student at the Coastal College of Georgia is petitioning to get her parents out of Afghanistan.
Action News Jax spoke with Fahima Rastagar in August after her parents tried to escape Kabul, but didn’t make it because of the crowds outside the airport.

“Looking for a better life, and then all of them are just turned into pieces,” Rastagar said.
They were just a short distance from a bombing outside the airport that killed at least 60 Afghans and 13 U.S. service members.
Her parents survived, but they are still fearing for their lives in Afghanistan.
Rastagar has had to limit phone calls with her parents and can’t share their location because she fears the Taliban could track them.
“Whenever I talk to them, it’s very difficult for me. I just feel like I don’t know what to do with myself,” she said.
She also sent a letter to Rep. Carter and Sen. Ossoff to help get her parents to the U.S.
Rastagar said her mother qualifies for a P2 visa.

“Not only my parents, but the people that I associate with a lot — all of them going through this pain — it’s very devastating,” she said.
Rastagar worked as an Afghan translator for the U.S. military since she was 14 years old.
