With training camp for the 2021-22 NBA season barely more than a week away, Rockets rookie Jalen Green is getting used to life in his new city of Houston. As part of that transition, Green threw out the ceremonial first pitch on Friday at Minute Maid Park, where Major League Baseball’s Astros are hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Green received a nice ovation from the crowd, which appeared quite happy to welcome who they hope is Houston’s next basketball star. Green, who wore an Astros jersey with his name and preferred No. 4 on the back, smiled throughout and waved to acknowledge his new fans.

Green was the No. 2 overall pick by the Rockets in the first round of the 2021 NBA draft. He’s 19 years old, which means he could become one of the faces of Houston sports for quite some time.

The Astros (86-60) are on the verge of their fourth American League West division title in five years, which should give Green and other members of the Rockets some fun opportunities to take in postseason baseball games during October off days, should they desire.

As for Green’s basketball duties with the Rockets, training camp for the new season begins Tuesday, Sept. 28 in Houston.
