2019 NBA re-draft: Sixers pick Coby White with Matisse Thybulle gone

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The 2019 NBA draft was a solid one for the Philadelphia 76ers. They snagged a player who is now one of the league’s elite defenders. The Sixers traded up to No. 20 and selected Matisse Thybulle out of Washington.

While looking back at that draft, a few moves would be done differently if teams had the chance. Knowing what everybody knows now, it is time for a do-over for 2019.

In a re-draft performed by Bleacher Report, Thybulle was selected at No. 4 by the Atlanta Hawks. That means the Sixers had to go another route and selected Coby White, who has proven a high volume scorer.

B/R on White to Philadelphia:

So far, Coby White looks like a high-volume, low-efficiency bench scorer. Over two seasons, he’s averaged 14.2 points with a well-below-average effective field-goal percentage and a low free-throw rate.

That doesn’t mean White will always be this player, though. He’s only 21 years old. Moderate improvement as a 3-point shooter might be about all it takes to change his outlook offensively.

He probably needs even more work on the other end, but defense isn’t always the top priority for a heat-check guy.

White averaged 15.1 points, 4.8 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in his second season in 2020-21 while shooting 41.6% from the floor and 35.9% from deep. The third-year guard from North Carolina is a good player who can put the ball in the basket so getting him at No. 20 in this draft would be pretty solid value.
