It seems that, like million-dollar hypercars, there’s some new ultra-fast eclectic luxury car debuting every week. Recently, of course, we saw the Tesla Model S Plaid make its way into the hands of journalists and media, with customers starting to get theirs as well. Now, the Audi RS e-tron GT finds itself in much the same place.

Question is, which of these two $100,000+ hyper EVs is the best? Recently, carwow took them both from London to Scotland to find out, with some interesting results.

What is the range of the Tesla Model S Plaid?

Per the EPA, the 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid will do 348 miles before it runs out of juice. By and large, it looked as if the Tesla Model S in carwow’s video was headed for about those same numbers. Obviously, both drivers elected to stop before they ran completely out of juice, just like any reasonable human would. Now, here’s where things get interesting.

The driver of the Audi RS e-tron GT made three stops along the London-Scotland route, totaling one hour. However, the Tesla only stopped once, for a full hour. Even without Tesla’s excellent Supercharger network, driving the e-tron across the UK proved to be just as manageable in an Audi luxury car as it would be in a Tesla.

In fact, it would appear you’ll make better time in the Audi. Of course, that can also have human variables like different routes, traffic, accidents, et cetera. However, point to point, the Audi RS e-tron GT managed to beat the Tesla Model S Plaid in a near-photo finish. And that says a lot about both car companies.

Tesla is very much a new player in the auto world. Audi has been making cars since before we’d really even call them cars. Maybe we used “whirlygig” or “automatic carriage” or a word equally as turn of the century. The boys and girls in Ingolstadt have a massive amount of experience doing this sort of thing, and it shows throughout the e-tron’s interior, as well as the way it drives.

That’s all to say nothing of the ridiculous and dangerous Tesla yoke steering wheel in the Plaid. It turns out, to beat a Tesla in a race, all you need is 637 hp and an excellent infotainment screen to navigate from. Oh, and a really nice interior. There’s more entrants to the luxury electric car segment every day, and Tesla better start watching its back.
