Construction is officially underway on the newest development in the Deer District.
Developers, the Bucks and city leaders broke ground Friday on the city's newest hotel, The Trade Milwaukee.
It will be built in the lot at Vel R. Phillips and Juneau avenues to the north of the arena.
The boutique hotel will come with more than 200 rooms and a rooftop restaurant.
When it comes to Deer District development, this will be the first hotel as well as the first major project since the start of the pandemic.
"This is going to add even more energy to an area we all know is filled with energy," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said.
It was a gravel lot filled with fans during the Bucks victory celebration.
"This spot was crucial during the finals. What happens if the Bucks repeat, say next year?" WISN 12's Hannah Hilyard asked.
"That's the greatest problem ever. We will not have a problem finding space," Bucks President Peter Feigin said. "There's certainly lots of streets and lots of avenues, and there's lots of spaces, so what a great problem to have to think of spaces to celebrate."
The hotel will be under construction for the entire upcoming season.
It's expected to open in early 2023.
