The summer transfer window saw a transformation of the Celtic squad but did leave opportunities for midfielders to step up and stake a claim for a place in the team. Yet, one of the club’s midfielders has departed on loan now.

With the likes of Ryan Christie and Scott Brown leaving the Hoops this summer, there was a need to bolster the midfield as depth in the middle of the park appeared to be limited. James McCarthy arrived on a free transfer and it remains to be seen how things turn out for him.

One man who is yet to get his chance for the first-team is Luca Connell. Signed from Bolton Wanderers, he was seen as a very exciting prospect when he arrived in the summer of 2019 and had already made several appearances in the English Championship.

But things have not gone as many would have expected as he is yet to make his competitive debut for the senior team and has been sent on loan to Queen’s Park FC. The news was confirmed on Celtic’s official Twitter earlier:

Connell has departed Celtic on loan as he returns to Queen’s Park FC

Connell is now returning to Queen’s Park FC on loan where he has already enjoyed a successful loan spell in the past and is now on his way back there to gain more experience.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Connell made 11 appearances for the club last season, scoring 3 goals and providing 5 assists. Safe to say that those are brilliant numbers for a midfielder.

The thing with Connell is that he has always looked like a player with a lot of potential and even impressed in the past when playing for the club in friendly games. But he is yet to make a single competitive appearance for the Hoops, which is very interesting.
