Eric Clapton is back on the road in North America as part of a brief eight-date mini-tour. Friday night (September 17th), the trek hits Houston's Toyota Center before rolling through New Orleans; Nashville; Atlanta, before wrapping with two shows in the “Golden State” — playing in Tampa and Hollywood, Florida. Jimmie Vaughan is serving as the tour's special guest.
Clapton’s band for these shows include guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, keyboardists Paul Carrack and Chris Stainton, bassist Nathan East, drummers Sonny Emory and Steve Gadd, with Sharon White and Katie Kissoon on backing vocals.
The shows have been featuring such staples as “Pretending,” “I Shot The Sheriff,” “Wonderful Tonight,” “Got To Get Better In A Little While,” “Tears In Heaven,” and a cover of Fleetwood Mac's Peter Green standout, “Man Of The World.”
Notably missing from the setlists thus far, is Clapton's recently released politically-charged, anti-Covid restrictions song, “This Has Gotta Stop.”
Often touted as a “Guitar God,” Eric Clapton told us that he's not really sure he deserves that kind of recognition: “If it's true — and I presume you think it is — then I think it's a wonderful thing, and it's a great honor to be able to have that. It's a privilege, y'know, that I'm very grateful for. I would never want to belittle that.”
