BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox have optioned righty Ryan Brasier to Triple-A Worcester. They have activated both Chris Sale and Matt Barnes from the COVID-related IL.

Boston also designated reliever Michael Feliz for assignment.

Sale will start Friday against the Baltimore Orioles here at Fenway Park. First pitch is at 7:10 p.,m.

MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo was the first to report Brasier’s demotion.

Brasier has struggled since returning from the IL. He has allowed five runs (two earned runs), nine hits and two walks while striking out just one in 4 ⅓ innings (five outings).

The Red Sox need Barnes to pitch well down the stretch. He allowed 10 earned runs in 6 ⅔ innings (11 outings) during August. Opponents batted .375 with a 1.237 OPS against him.
