BLACKSBURG – The No. 17 Virginia Tech men's soccer makes its long-awaited home debut in contentious fashion, as Commonwealth foe Virginia comes to Thompson Field on Friday night.

MATCH DETAILS
Opponent: Virginia
Date/Time: Friday, Sept. 17 | 7 PM
Location: Thompson Field (Blacksburg, Va.)
Watch: ACC Network
Live Stats: HERE

CAVALIERS
  • Virginia (2-2-1, 0-1 ACC) enters the match following a 0-0 draw with UNC Greensboro on Tuesday night. The Cavaliers opened their season with two wins but have struggled to find victorious results in their last three fixtures.

HOKIES
  • It's no secret that Virginia has dominated this Commonwealth clash since its inception, as the Hokies (2-1-2, 0-1 ACC) have only won three matches over the Cavaliers. However, in last year's two-folded season, the Hokies grabbed a win and draw off the Cavaliers. Furthermore, Tech qualified for its fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament, while Virginia's 39-season streak was snapped in 2020.
  • Three of the Tech's first five games have come against ranked opponents (No. 1 Marshall, No. 19 Duke, and No. 20 Seton Hall). The Hokies are 1-1-1 in those games (W vs. Marshall, L at Duke, T vs. Seton Hall). UCF, which Tech defeated 2-1 on 9/3, was also ranked No. 13 in the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll
  • The Hokies have scored at least two goals in four of their first five matches. Last season, Virginia Tech only scored 3+ goals in a game once (vs. UMass). The Hokies have already scored 3+ twice this season (vs. Marshall and vs. Seton Hall).
