CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It has not been an easy 15 months for the family of Ahmad Kadir. They lost their son to gun violence, but no arrests have been made.

They deeply miss him and are heartbroken that no one’s come forward with the critical information police need.

“Ahmad, I often described him as the heartbeat of the house,” his father Sulayman Kadir said.

“Losing Ahmad is tough, but what makes it even harder is the case not being solved. The lack of communication with CMPD (Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department). The fear of the case going cold,” his mother Evelyn Kadir said.

Ahmad Kadir was killed in June 2020 after a drive-by shooting. Investigators said he was at a party celebrating a new job, only five minutes before he was shot in a north Charlotte neighborhood.

In January, the couple made an appointment with investigators to get an update, but police provided little information.

Sulayman Kadir said that was frustrating, because he’s seen posts online from potential suspects mocking his son’s death.
