Thousands without power in Whatcom County following heavy rains and moderately strong winds

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Over 1,200 Puget Sound Energy (PSE) customer addresses in Bellingham and several hundred others across the county were without power at 1pm today, September 17th.

While the causes for all these 15 outages had not been confirmed by the time this story was published, many were the result of downed trees and vegetation according PSE.

At the same time, PSE reported a total of 45 outages throughout the Puget Sound region impacting over 2,000 PSE customer addresses.

A wind advisory is in effect from 5am to 8pm today due to expected sustained southeast winds of 30 to 40mph with gusts to 55 mph expected. The strongest winds are expected later today.

UPDATE 3pm – PSE reports about 6,500 customer addresses are without power in Whatcom County including over 3,200 in the Fairhaven, Edgemoor and Happy Valley areas.
