While Celtic fans must have been disappointed coming out of the game against Real Betis, looking back, it was not the worst result. The Hoops did manage to go 2-0 up within the first 30 minutes but then ended up conceding four straight goals against Manuel Pellegrini’s side. Anthony Ralston scored late on to give Ange Postecoglou’s side some hope but it was a little too late to salvage a draw out of the game.

It is true that the team needs to work on its defence and their game management, which should have been better after going 2-0 up. But heading into the game, most fans would have probably taken this result.

The odds were stacked against Celtic on the day. An away game against Real Betis was always going to be difficult and on top of that, they had a number of players missing through injury as well.

Pellegrini seemed to be impressed with this Celtic side. While speaking with Marca and as reported by the Daily Record, the Real Betis manager said:

"“First of all, we were aware we were facing a great team from Scotland, who normally play in the Champions League, who win titles in their country or are always in the Europa League.“Before we started we knew they had good players, a very good team.“Having played so badly for those first 25 minutes where they had all the space and the ball, I think it gives double merit to the victory.”"

It is safe to say that results have been mixed under the management of Postecoglou but this Celtic side certainly appear to be moving in the right direction.

The improvement in the performances is clear for all to see and with a few more additions to this squad, this could be a serious team.

While it remains to be seen what the future holds, if this team can continue to improve like they have over the course of the past couple of months then there is no reason that they cannot challenge the Rangers for the Premiership title this season or have a solid campaign in the Europa League.

The early signs under the management of Postecoglou are very promising. Now it will be interesting to see how things unfold over time.
