Three new health alerts for lakes

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The state has issued a health alert for Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) for three lakes in Nebraska.

The three lakes with new health alerts include Calamus Reservoir in Garfield County, Iron Horse Trail Lake in Pawnee County, and Kirkman’s Cove Lake in Richardson County.

Wirth Brothers Lake in Johnson County and Willow Creek Reservoir in Pierce County are still currently on health alert for HAB.

Swan Creek Lake in Saline County has been is no longer under health alert.

Signs will be posted at the affected lakes to advise the public to use caution when near the water.

Swimming beaches will be closed during the health alert, but recreational boating and fishing will be permitted.
