A woman in her 50s is the latest McLean County resident to die from COVID-19 complications.
According to the McLean County Health Department (MCHD), the woman was not associated with a long-term care facility. MHCD has reported seven COVID-related deaths this month and 252 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
More hospital beds have opened in Bloomington-Normal, while 26 McLean County residents remain hospitalized. That’s down two from Thursday. Carle BroMenn Medical Center and OSF St. Joseph Medical Center report 29 COVID-19 patients are receiving care. The hospitals indicate they have 77% of intensive care beds in use and 86% of all beds are occupied.
Data from both hospital systems indicate more than 80% of their COVID-19 patients are not vaccinated.
New cases
McLean County announced 72 daily coronavirus cases on Friday. The positive tests came from a batch of about 2,000 tests returned overnight.
MCHD said 525 people are isolating at home, while 50 people were released from quarantine overnight and 20,679 people are considered recovered from COVID-19.
The county's seven-day testing positivity rate increased to 3.6%.The county’s cumulative positivity rate is 4.6% based on more than 468,500 tests conducted since the start of the pandemic.
COVID vaccines
According to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), more than 183,600 COVID vaccines have been put in arms in McLean County. The rate of fully vaccinated inched up to 53.3%, compared to the state average of 54.3%.
Risk alerts
McLean County remains under a IPDH risk alert based on its rate of new coronavirus cases (222 per 100,000 residents from Sept. 5-11) and limited ICU beds (16.9%). Much of Illinois is under the risk alert because on high caseloads and limited hospital capacity. Logan County is the only neighboring county to McLean that’s not considered a high-risk area.
