Boyne City's Keni Ciesielski (7) and Morgan Deming (16) rise up for a block on a Sault Ste. Marie hit during their match across the bridge Thursday.

SAULT STE. MARIE — The momentum they built in a three-set win early in the week couldn’t be carried across the bridge Thursday for the Boyne City volleyball team.

The Ramblers traveled to the Upper Peninsula to meet Sault Ste. Marie and came back with a three-set loss to the talented Blue Devils.

The Sault earned wins of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-20 to come away with the overall victory.

Aubrey Burns finished with a team-high nine kills, had four digs and was 4 of 4 on serve receptions, Grace Dawson had five kills, eight digs and served at 100 percent, Bella Cosier had 16 digs, 22 serve receptions and was perfect on serves, then Ava Tarsi had 19 assists.

Boyne City has to have a quick rebound, as they head to Charlevoix for a tough Lake Michigan Conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

BOYNE CITY — The Boyne City boys’ soccer team took its first Lake Michigan Conference loss of the season, though it came at the hands of the No. 8 team in Division 3.

And by Elk Rapids standards, the loss wasn’t all that bad.

The Elks earned a 2-0 win after a 0-0 halftime, scoring around 18 minutes into the second half to break the scoreless tie.

Nic Santina came through with nine saves in goal for the Ramblers, who fired just one shot on target at the other end.

Boyne also dropped the JV game by a score of 2-0.

Boyne City, now 6-5-2 overall and 3-1 within the LMC, next heads to Cheboygan for a non-conference match on Saturday, before heading to Grayling for a league game on Monday, Sept. 20.
