Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond Credits Her Husband With Helping Her Lose Almost 60 Pounds

Ree Drummond’s fitness and weight loss journey over the past several months has been inspiring to watch. Recently, the Pioneer Woman shared more about how she got into shape and a project she has coming just in time for the holidays!

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Drummond revealed that losing weight was always top of mind, especially for her daughter’s wedding back in May. However, finding time to exercise was tricky between writing cookbooks, running a restaurant and bakery, and hosting a Food Network show. Earlier this year, she realized she needed a change while eating too many chips and salsa one night. “I went a little overboard, but I thought that night, ‘I am going to start tomorrow, I am doing something different.'” she reveals. “And I just started and I almost lost 60 pounds now.”

Drummond previously said that decided to take a “gimmick-free” approach to losing weight simply by reducing her daily calorie intake, working out more often, and lifting weights. Drummond adds that her husband, Ladd, was her “unexpected trainer” as he helped her exercise in their living room even though he was injured from a fire truck accident. “And so [Ladd] was in his neck brace kind of immobilized, but he was training me in the living room telling me to get lower with my lunges and my squats,” she says.

Drummond says making fitness a priority every day has made her feel amazing and that she can “feel the muscles that I thought were gone forever.” Also, eating more protein-rich foods like lean turkey, raw almonds, and low-fat Greek yogurt has helped her drop and keep the weight off. While she tries to limit her daily sugar intake, she doesn’t shy away from indulging her sweet tooth in moderation, which is fitting since her bakeware line is now available at Walmart. “I still eat cake. I just eat a Rhode Island-sized piece instead of a Texas-sized piece,” she laughs.

Speaking of sweets, she’s also looking ahead to the holiday season where she has a supporting role as a bakery owner in her very first movie Candy Coated Christmas, which is set to air on Discovery+ in November. Although she emphasizes that she’s not an actor, she jumped at the opportunity to work alongside Food Network on this project.

Like they have with her mission to get healthy, her family is fully supporting her with this movie: “My girls were saying, ‘Go Mom, you’ve got this, slay queen,’ and my youngest said, ‘Go Momma,’ and Jamar was encouraging, and then Bryce, my 18-year-old said, ‘Don’t say anything cheesy, please.'”

It seems like Drummond is perfectly balancing daily workouts with spending time with family and polishing her acting skills for her on-screen debut!
