Free steering wheel locks offered by West Allis PD for certain Hyundai vehicles

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An increase in motor vehicle thefts has the West Allis Police Department offering free steering wheel locks for vehicle owners of certain Hyundai models.

West Allis police said auto thefts have been "disproportionally" targeting Hyundai vehicles that are not equipped with an engine immobilizer, so the department partnered with the motor vehicle company in an effort to combat the thefts.

You are eligible for a steering wheel lock if you have a Hyundai vehicle manufactured between 2016-2021.

Recipients will need to provide proof of vehicle ownership / lease, license plate, and proof of residency or employment in the city of West Allis. Steering wheel locks will be provided at no cost.

Distribution will begin at the West Allis Police Department Open House Event being held on Sunday, September 19th, 2021, 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 6900 W. National Ave. in West Allis.

If you don't make the event, owners of these specific vehicles can obtain a steering wheel lock at the West Allis Police Department Community Services Unit Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Community Services can be reached at (414)302-8050.
