BMW Shows Off Three Unique E38 750iL Models, Including The Famous James Bond Car

The BMW 750iL was the flagship variant of the E38-generation car and is the focus of a new video from BMW Group Classic.

Powering the 750iL of its day was a powerful V12 engine and this particular example has been exceptionally well maintained and looks just like it did when it first rolled out of the factory. The video doesn’t just focus on the timeless exterior design of the car but also the interior.

The hosts note that all of the materials of the cabin feel very fresh, including the leather and the plastics. Like any car from the late 1990s, it includes a handful of ashtrays but what’s most impressive is the presence of a colored navigation display in the dashboard. It may only be small but for a car from the late 1990s, it is a pretty cool feature.

A pair of particularly special E38 7-Series models are also featured in this video. The first example is finished in Canyon Red Metallic and Nepal Silver Metallic and was designed by Karl Lagerfeld and created through a collaboration between BMW Individual and the Four Seasons hotel in Hamburg, Germany.

This special 750iL also has a host of unique features in the cabin. These include a built-in fax machine, a VHS recorder, player, and screen in the rear of the center console, two telephones, and even a fridge in between the rear seats.

Last but not least is the 750iL that was featured in James Bond’s Tomorrow Never Dies. It is equipped with a plethora of unique gadgets and in the film, was shown to be remote-controlled. However, it wasn’t actually remote-controlled, as the car can actually be driven from the rear seat where there is a small steering wheel and peddles that connect to the real pedals at the front.
