Main Street Arts to exhibit ‘A Long Day’s Journey’

COURTESY OF MAIN STREET ARTS

“Joy Adams: A Long Day’s Journey” will open with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Main Street Arts, 20 W. Main St., Clifton Springs, with an artist talk at 5:30 p.m.

The exhibition includes new drawings and paintings inspired by derelict roads and overgrown yards, along with work from Adams’ “Mad Sally’s Marvelous Adventures” series from the early 2000s and paintings dating back to the ‘80s and ‘90s.

"My memories of English fields and countryside reshape what I see from my window,” said Adams, of Trumansburg. “There is nothing unique about lavishly prickly weeds or trees dozing off in my backyard, unless I manage to bring something new to how I see them. The challenge is to avoid the predictable, because predictability is about as welcome as a cold cuppa tea.”

“Road to Nowhere” by Joy Adams.

The exhibit can be viewed through Oct. 29. Face coverings will be required at the reception and artist talk. Main Street Arts is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays-Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays-Saturdays. Visit mainstreetartscs.org for information.
