Coroner identifies man killed after steel coil falls off semitruck, crashing into SUV
A coroner has identified a 33-year-old man killed when a steel coil fell from a semitruck, crushing an SUV.
Blake Mulder, 33, of the Butler County village of Seven Mile, was killed in a Wednesday crash, the Butler County Coroner said Friday.
The crash happened around 6:20 a.m. on US-127 and Morganthaler Road in Hamilton.
Officials said a tractor-trailer, owned by Total Package Express Inc., was driving north on State Route 127 when a steel coil became unsecured, falling off the semitruck's bed and into the southbound lanes, hitting an SUV.
The driver of that SUV, Mulder, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"These are very difficult scenes to respond. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this time," a statement from Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones reads.
Officials with Badin High School said Mulder is an alumni, and that there will be a vigil Friday night to celebrate his life.
The investigation is ongoing. WLWT will update this story as details become available.
