North Platte Police Chief Dan Hudson speaks to those gathered at a POW/MIA remembrance ceremony Friday morning at North Platte Community College.

The event, which took place at the NPCC South Campus flagpole under a waving POW/MIA flag, paid tribute to prisoners of war and those missing in action. It coincided with National POW/MIA Recognition Day.

In 1990, Hudson was a Marine embassy guard, besieged by Iraqi forces then held hostage in Baghdad. He said it was the thought of everyone at home thinking of him that kept him going.

In addition to Hudson’s remarks, audience members heard from Quinton Jackson, NPCC’s assistant director of student leadership and diversity, a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Music was provided by The Nightingales, singers within NPCC’s music department. The ceremony was followed by refreshments in the fireplace area of the McDonald-Belton Building.
