Succession, which follows the lives of Logan Roy and his family of Extremely Large Adult Children, has unexpectedly become the crown jewel of HBO's post-Game Of Thrones lineup. It's a hilarious comedy mocking the ridiculously privileged, and a critically-acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning drama full of catharsis and theatrical twists. It balances its storytelling between entertaining schadenfreude and complicit ickiness. It can be a meme-machine full of quote-worthy dialogue and also a wrenching tale of abuse and its fallout.

HBO has now released the first trailer for season three, coming almost two years since the end of season two, with glimpses of all the characters we have come to love and loathe in equal measure. Greg is checking trending topics on Twitter, Tom is offering Greg "cyanide pills," Roman is still a knucklehead, Shiv is still a fake, and Kendall is screwier than ever after finally turning on his father at the end of season two. And Logan Roy clearly isn't handling that betrayal well, going into scorched Earth mode: "We'll fucking beast them. We'll go full fucking beast!"

The official logline for season three is: “Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall at the end of season two, Logan Roy begins Season three in a perilous position, scrambling to secure familial, political, and financial alliances. Tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war.”

Below, watch the trailer, plus a teaser, for season three, which premieres on October 17th.

Some big name stars joining the show this season are Alexander Skarsgård, Adrien Brody, and Hope Davis, all of whom can be spotted in the trailer above; other new cast members include Sanaa Lathan, Linda Emond, Jihae and Dasha Nekrasova.

Co-star Jeremy Strong, who plays Kendall, previously told Gothamist that the show explores how the trauma in the Roy family is like poison that then becomes societal trauma.

"What if you have a family where the language of that family and the glue that holds that family together is essentially corporate," he said. "The language of this family is business, is commerce. The currency of this family is not love. It's business. And so at the heart of that is, I think, the father-son relationship for my character—and how in a family like that, the only way I think you can earn a father's approval and love and respect is by distinguishing yourself in that field and through the question of succession."

You can also go back and read our interview with star Brian Cox, who compared the show to King Lear and talked about Logan's motivations and the toxic relationships within the Roy family.

And of course, no post about Succession would be complete without asking the ultimate Succession question: who will win a kiss from daddy this season?
