Ring video appears to show a member of a U.S. Marshals Task Force hitting a murder suspect after he was arrested.
Authorities confirmed that the person being arrested is Kevin Harris, 17, who is one of two teenagers facing capital murder charges in connection with an August shooting in Canton that killed a man and a 6-year-old boy.
Harris' mother told 16 WAPT News that the arrest took place early Thursday at her home in South Jackson.
"The U.S. Marshals Service is aware of an incident that occurred (Thursday) morning involving members of our multi-agency Gulf Coast Regional Task Force in Mississippi. We take any allegation of misconduct by our personnel or task force partners seriously and we are currently gathering information regarding the incident," the agency said in a statement.
Demetrius Lee, 16, was arrested along with Harris at the home in Jackson, authorities said. Harris and Lee are both charged with two counts of capital murder, aggravated assault and conspiracy.
Jeison Elias Ramon Lopez, 6, and Tracy Wilder, 42, were killed last month at a gas station near Franklin and Canal streets. The 6-year-old was killed by a stray bullet as he sat in the back seat of his mother's car, police said. Wilder was changing someone's oil at the gas station when the shooting started, police said. Wilder was also killed by a stray bullet.
Tomar Smith, 24, and another 17-year-old are already in custody facing accessory and conspiracy charges in connection with the case, police said.
