This morning the NHL officially announced that the 2022 entry draft will take place in Montreal on July 7 and 8. It will be the 27th time that the Canadiens host the draft and if everything goes according to plan, team personnel, draftees, medias and fans alike will be invited to attend. As per usual, the first round will take place on the Friday night and be televised. As for rounds 2 to 7, they will take place on Saturday.

As things stand, the Canadiens have 11 selections in 7 rounds having given up a first round pick in the Christian Dvorak trade which still leaves them with a first round pick. The last time the Canadiens hosted the draft, they picked local favorite Louis Leblanc, making him the 18th pick of the first round. Unfortunately, that’s yet another draft pick that didn’t pan out for the Habs, his NHL career consisted of 50 games in which he gathered 10 points.

Speaking of local favorites though, the Rocket announced today that it had signed Kevin Roy to a one-way one-year contract. Last season, he got 30 points in 35 games with the Tucson Roadrunners. This means that there will be at least 20 Quebeckers fighting for spots on the Rocket’s roster this season.

Meanwhile the rookie camp is still underway in Brossard and tomorrow, the “baby Canadiens” will take on the “baby Sens” in Ottawa at 4:00 PM, a game that will be streamed live on the Senators’ Youtube channel. The two teams will meet again on Monday in Brossard at 4:00 PM again, there are no broadcast details as of now.

Finally, for the nostalgic amongst you, 50 years ago, Guy Lafleur played his first NHL game and picked up 3 helpers in an exhibition game against Boston. Here’s to hoping that soon, the Canadiens will be able to rely on an offensive player as skilled and lethal as Lafleur…no pressure but I’m looking at you Suzuki and Caufield.
