Sun is rising over a city with something for everyone. If you think, 'Topeka is boring,' you're not trying.

You may have heard a rumor there’s nothing to do in Topeka. False! Let's refute that fake news.

We’re not sure where that rumor got started, and we accept that Top City may never have the hustle and bustle of a metro like the Kansas City area; Omaha, Neb.; or Dallas, but it’s obvious there’s still plenty to do in Topeka. There’s even more to do when looking at such surrounding communities as Junction City, Perry, Silver Lake and more.

Last weekend’s “Touch-A-Truck” event in downtown Topeka and the Chalk Art Festival drew large crowds of people. Not to mention NOTO Live filling the area with buskers and live music. And don't forget the ever-popular Huff 'n Puff Balloon Festival.

Evergy Plaza seems to always have at least one event going on. This weekend in downtown Topeka, the area will get a little green for the Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Parade and IrishFest. Stop by Blind Tiger for the Blarney Breakfast first.

Want to stay inside? Plenty of arts and crafts classes are available.

And if you’re into music, why not check out the Topeka Jazz Workshop on Sept. 19?

A new exhibit at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is showcasing Topeka's Latino and Hispanic communities. "La Comunidad" features art from various Hispanic artists and performing artists. The Capital-Journal’s Brianna Childers reported the exhibit opened Sept. 3 in the library's Alice C. Sabatini Gallery and will be on display until Nov. 21.

Are the great outdoors calling your name? Hiking trails near Cedar Crest can't be . Be sure to wave to Gov. Kelly on your way down the trailhead. Lake Shawnee can be a fun time too.

Need we go on? That’s already quite a list.

Our point is fairly simple: this is a great — and busy — time to be a Topekan. People are doing a fantastic job organizing events. We should also say thank you to those who make these things happen. We know there’s a lot of planning that goes on behind the scenes to make these things happen. Please know your work has not gone unnoticed.

Furthermore, Topekans: if you want to keep these events in town you need to show up and support them. That seems pretty straight forward, but still worth mentioning.

There’s an old adage that “Only boring people are bored.” Keeping that in mind, we’ll ask the next person who says Topeka is boring to do some inward reflection.

Have fun this weekend. And the next ... and the next. We know there will be something fun to do in Topeka.
