The Dumfries Town Council will hold a public hearing on Sept. 21 and could vote to approve a conditional use permit that would pave the way for "The Rose," a $389 million gaming and entertainment facility planned for the current site of the Potomac Landfill near Va. 234 and U.S. 1 in Dumfries.

Prince William County officials want the Dumfries Town Council to require Colonial Downs, developer of the planned "The Rose," to pay to build a chunk of the four-lane "quadrant loop" intersection planned for U.S. 1 and the eventual extension of Potomac Shores Parkway to alleviate congestion from new traffic generated by the new $389 million gaming facility, hotel and entertainment complex.

According to its proposed agreement with the Town of Dumfries, Colonial Downs, developer of the planned "The Rose" gaming facility, could opt to pay for more modest improvements to Old Stage Coach Road that would prohibit traffic from turning left onto U.S. 1.
