The Central Catholic Rams were able to schedule a new opponent after their original football game against the Nelson Hawks was canceled due to COVID-19.
The Rams, unbeaten in three games and the top-ranked team in The Oregonian/OregonLive Class 6A poll, will now face Tumwater Thunderbirds, a Class 2A school in Washington state on Friday. The Thunderbirds have won their first two games by a combined score of 98-6.
The Rams joined a number of teams that had to scramble to schedule a new opponent after their original game was canceled during Week 3.
The Parkrose Broncos-La Salle Falcons game was cancelled and the Broncos were awarded a forfeit win. The Broncos will now face Milwaukie Academy of the Arts.
The Marshfield Pirates scheduled a game against Prairie (Wash.) on Friday after its original game against North Bend was canceled after a Bulldogs’ player tested positive following their game against Ashland last week.
According to an email North Bend School District Superintendent Kevin Bogatin released on Monday, the player “traveled with the team, played in the game, and had physical contact with a number of players from both our school and our opponents’ school.”
The North Marion Huskies canceled their game against Milwaukie that was scheduled for Thursday.
In related news, the Thurston Colts, the two-time defending 4A champions, will finally open their 2021 season against Springfield Friday night. The Colts missed the first two weeks of the season due to positive COVID-19 tests within the program.
