Man arrested after Fayetteville shooting that injured one

Dorantez L. Evans has been arrested in connection to the shooting.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Authorities in Fayetteville are investigating a shooting that left one person hospitalized Thursday, Sept. 16, afternoon. 

According to a social media post from the Fayetteville Police Department, police received multiple calls concerning a shooting outside a home in the area of Leverett Ave. and Kelley St. 

When officers arrived they found a male victim with a gunshot wound to his leg and was transported to an area hospital. The victim and his wife told police Dorantez L. Evans was involved in an argument and fight with them and that's when Evans shot the victim. 

Police say Evans fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival. Witnesses described the incident which corroborated with the victim's story. Officers responded to Evans' known address and located the vehicle that witnesses had described. 

Shortly after, Evans' wife provided officers with a statement on what had occurred and said she had let him out of the vehicle after leaving the victim's house and was not home. 

Officers soon located Evans walking in the back area towards his house and took him into custody for questioning.

During the interview, Evans allegedly admitted to being at the scene at the time of the shooting and that he and the victim had issues. Evans then asked for a lawyer and stopped speaking to investigators. 

The interview was stopped and Evans was transported to jail. Police say Evans is a convicted felon. 

Evans was arrested for First-Degree Battery, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons.
