The 2021-22 season will be
Marc-Andre Fleury's first as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks, but it might be his final season of his professional hockey career. In an interview on the 31 Thoughts podcast with Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek, Fleury mentioned that this coming season "Could be" his last in the NHL.
"Could be," he said when asked about potential retirement. "I still want to be good. I want to battle, I want to feel good, I want to win. I want to help a team."
Fleury went on to add, "The day will come. I'm not sure when. I'm not sure how, why," Fleury said. "I'm getting older right? The body feels it some days. A lot of days... but when I get out there I still feel like a young guy. "I know it will come. I'm not sure when, but I'm sure soon. So I just try to enjoy what I have right now and go one year at a time."
The 36-year-old was traded in the off-season from Vegas to Chicago. It was rumoured that Fleury wasn't happy with the move at first and that he was seriously considering retirement. Ultimately, he decided that he was going to play this season with the Blackhawks.

The Sorel, Quebec native has played parts of 17 seasons in the NHL with Pittsburgh and Vegas. In 884 regular season games, Fleury has a record of 492-276-82 with a 2.55 G.A.A., a .913 save percentage and 67 shutouts.
Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman did a fairly good job this off-season to add to his roster. Aside from Fleury, he brought in
Seth Jones,
Caleb Jones,
Tyler Johnson,
Jujhar Khaira and
Jake McCabe. Captain Jonathan Toews is also expected to be back for the 2021-22 season. These additions should help Chicago return to the playoffs, and potentially win a round if they get in.
