Arkansas football (2-0) enters Week 3 fresh off defeating a Top 25 team in the Texas Longhorns. The Razorbacks, now ranked No. 20 in the polls, will be facing tough competition against Georgia Southern (1-1) this week.

The Hogs are in a classic “trap game” situation with Georgia Southern.

What is a trap game, you may be asking? Pro Football Focus defines it as “a high-ranked team playing in a game that everyone expects them to win against a far lesser opponent (not necessarily a losing team).”

This is exactly the situation the Razorbacks find themselves entering with this Week 3 matchup. The team feels great after knocking off rival Texas last week and could erroneously be looking ahead to the four straight ranked opponents coming up on the schedule after this week.

In between all of that chaos is the Georgia Southern Eagles of the Sun Belt Conference who could be looking to take advantage of an Arkansas team that’s on a winner’s high and not taking their opponent seriously.

Let’s take a look at three bold predictions for this compelling game of Arkansas vs Georgia Southern.

3. Arkansas will struggle against this Group of Five  team

The Razorbacks have a history of struggling against non-Power Five opponents in recent years. While most of these games happened under a different regime, it’s still fresh in the minds of the Razorback faithful.

In 2019, the last season Arkansas played games against smaller schools, they struggled mightily. They narrowly beat Portland State, a school from the Big Sky conference, by just seven points. They lost to San Jose State by seven and got obliterated by Western Kentucky 45-19.

Most recently, in Week 1 of this college football season, Arkansas was tied with Rice through the first three quarters of the game. It took a huge fourth quarter to beat Rice by 21 points.

Historically speaking, the Arkansas Razorbacks will underestimate their opponent and win by just a couple of possessions. Expect Georgia Southern to cover in this game, currently listed at +23.5 on WynnBET.
