Relief is coming soon for vehicle suspension systems in downtown Reading.

City officials said a project to reconstruct the 200 and 300 blocks of Penn Street will begin Monday morning, requiring the closure of the eastbound lanes of the 200 block initially, followed by the closure of the westbound side.

The closure will remain in effect for several days, then advancing to the 300 block.

Detours will be posted as conditions change.

The work to rebuild and pave the bumpy section of Penn Street from the foot of the Penn Street bridge at the city’s gateway has been a long time coming.
