Coronation Street star Sally Carman has opened up about why she hates filming scenes with her fiancé and co-star Joe Duttine.

Carman plays Abi Franklin on the ITV soap, while Duttine plays Tim Metcalfe.

She told The Daily Star: "I hate working with [Joe]. He's a rotten man to work with because he makes me laugh to the point where I get that sweaty feeling because I can't get a grip."

"It's painful. I'll have gritted teeth and go, 'Stop it!', and he'll say, 'I'm not doing anything'. If I never have a scene with him again I'll be all right with that," Carman continued.

The pair began dating in 2018 after meeting on the soap's set and got engaged in 2020.

Carmen added: "I feel really settled. I've got myself a fiancé, I've moved house, and I've got a family and brilliant friends.

"Before Corrie, my life was about the next job. Now, I'm at an age where I've pretty much done everything I want to do and this is a job where I get to do different storylines and hang out with good friends at work. Then I come home to my nice house and my family. I feel like I'm putting roots down for the first time in my life."

Carman is a step-mum to her partner's two children, and though she's happy in real-life, her character hasn't fared as well.

Since joining the show in 2017, Carman's character Abi has had a heroin overdose, lost custody of her children, lived rough, has been in prison, and recently suffered the tragic loss of her son Seb.

Meanwhile, Duttine has played Tim since 2014 and was introduced as Faye Windass' (Ellie Leach) father. His storylines focus on his relationship with Faye and her adoptive family, as well as his relationship to Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor), whom he illegally married.

The couple are planing to tie the knot later this year, COVID-19 restrictions permitting.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
